Last bike season, my cousin Mark and I rode from his hovel in Beacon, NY over the Hudson River to Newburgh to catch a pretty sweet tour of Bannerman Island, an abandoned island in the middle of the river that used to house a military surplus warehouse. It blew up in the 1920's and never fully recovered. They're still finding LIVE shells from the Spanish American War there, so stay on the path. Oh yeah, there's a steamboat too.
